Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Celebrations Bring Communities Together Across Blaenau Gwent!
Communities across Blaenau Gwent came together to celebrate Dydd Gŵyl Dewi 2026 through a range of events supported by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Funding of up to £1,000 was made available to town and community councils to help deliver local celebrations promoting Welsh language, culture and heritage. Applications were received from Brynmawr Town Council, Tredegar Town Council, and Abertillery and Llanhilleth Town and Community Council.
Brynmawr Town Council once again hosted its popular school’s concert at the Market Hall Cinema, bringing together local primary schools, musicians and performers to celebrate Wales’ national day. Pupils showcased their talents through music and performance, while the appearance of Draig Dewi proved a particular highlight for younger attendees.
Tredegar Town Council delivered two successful events at Bedwellty House and Park, including a community event and a dedicated schools programme. Activities such as historical re-enactments, storytelling, live music and crafts provided engaging opportunities for residents and young people to learn more about Welsh history and culture. Welsh-language and Welsh-history books were also donated to local schools to support ongoing learning.
Abertillery and Llanhilleth Town and Community Council celebrated Dydd Gŵyl Dewi with a special concert featuring local choirs, musicians and performers. The event showcased the area's rich musical talent and provided an opportunity for residents to come together and celebrate Welsh culture and community spirit.
The events demonstrated the important role local councils and community organisations play in promoting Welsh language and culture. Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council would like to thank everyone involved in organising and participating in the celebrations, helping to make this year's Dydd Gŵyl Dewi a great success.
